Picking Up

where I left off . . .

Snow storms have finally hit the Northwest and we actually  have several inches on the ground here in Kennewick. More importantly, the snow pack is building in the mountains that gives us irrigation water in the summer. It's been much below average so far this winter so I'm kind of happy for the storm.

In an effort to stave off the winter blues, I've actually picked up an old wip (I think that's all I have anymore, lol) and finished it last night while watching the Olympics opening ceremonies.

I was also given an assignment by my youngest DD to create a skirt for her for the Sadie's dance today. Luckily she gave me a week's notice! Of course it wasn't just a regular skirt. No, the theme of the dance is Disney something-or-other and she wants to go as Kevin from the Up movie. But she doesn't want to be too costumey. Given a little inspiration from a Pinterest pin, I came up with this:

With the quieter winter days, I've been spending more time decluttering stuff we've collected over the years. Lots of paper has gone out to the trash now that my homeschooling days are over, textbooks and workbooks I've kept around have been donated, the magazine collection downsized (although I could get even more ruthless with those). There's lots more to get through, but I love seeing some empty space on the shelves - progress is being made.

what a cute skirt. I love your finish. I need to clean out a bunch of things. It might be easier to find what we really need!

I love the sampler you've finished - those flowers are so pretty and bright. As is the bright & funky skirt for your daughter's dance - lovely!

Congrats on the very pretty finish - lovely stitching. And well done on the skirt too. De-cluttering is definitely a good idea too - good for you.

Such a lovely sampler that you finished here. Isn't it wonderful to stitch flowers with different colours when it's cold and snowy outside? I love that.
