Our 4th celebration was lots of fun this year, altho extremely hot. All the better for the kids to have fun in the river. At the church picnic we enjoyed the company of friends as well as an especially fun time with our grandsons. Mid-afternoon we packed up for home where I actually took a nap! The heat hung on until the sun set behind the hills and we drove out, intending on going down to the park where all the Kennewick festivities are held; and where it always takes better than an hour to leave after the fireworks. Not far from our home is a little green belt with an excellent view of the Kennewick fireworks, and the Pasco fireworks across the river. It's next to the onramp for the highway, so traffic noise was a bit of a nuisance - but we got home before 11 p.m. Incredible!
While waiting for the fireworks we were treated to a lightning display north of Pasco. Miles away from us, so there was no danger, but gorgeous clouds and lightning. I love a good electrical storm. And by the looks of the sky, we may be in for one ourselves tonight!
Still no stitching being done - my house is topsy-turvy. However, I did read a good historical fiction book by Bernard Cornwell, "The Last Kingdom" about Alfred the Great and his fight against the Danes. There are two more in the series and I made sure that DH is getting them for me from the library. A summer heat wave is a little more conducive to reading than stitching.
While waiting for the next book, I'm listening to "Every Mother is a Daughter" audio book by Perri Klass and Sheila Solomon Klass. I've only just started, but the introduction was quite entertaining and this one could be ideal to stitch by. :D

Audio books are very little developed here: they're for blind people, and the people who read them are benevolents. They even have to provide for the material themselves! We have so much progress to make...

Your July 4th night sounds like our July 1st night (Canada Day) - lots of fireworks and then some lightening to add to the excitement!
But just lovely temps - in the 80's with no humidity - just perfect in my books! If only summers would stay that way...
