Stitchy Review 2009

Su is hosting a lovely end-of-the-year Stitchy Party for bloggers who would like to join in. As I don't generally keep track of stitching goals, I thought her party would be a fun way to see what I accomplished this year.

Umm, yeah . . . well, 2009 was not a stellar stitching year for me.

I did start off the year stitching up a little reindeer ornament, then stitched up a hardanger heart pillow with the smocking guild, completed the stitching of the stitching smalls in the Victoria Sampler Retreat design, and started a couple of hardanger coasters. But my focus piece this year has been A Quaker Study, and it's almost finished.

Of course, there are many other creative activities I try my hand at now and then. Smocking is a love of mine and I did get an Easter dress sewn for my granddaughter, Ilse. Through the smocking guild I learned a bit about doing kumihimo, which I used on the trim for the hardanger heart pillow. And that's about it, although I do feel pretty good about all the work we got done in the back yard this year. Anyone who has done much landscaping/gardening knows that after a hard day in the garden, you usually fall asleep early on the couch and not much else gets done.

In the coming year I'm hoping to stitch more, especially from my current collection of Victoria Sampler designs, smock another dress or two for Ilse, and just try to keep my head in all that's going on around me. :)

Tip of the hat to Su for the party!

Gorgeous stitching this year Von! Of course your granddaughter's smocked dress is my absolute favorite (the model could be tipping the scales, lol!)

Hi Von,

Well okay I am a stitching dummy, but that looks like a heck of a lot of work to me...never mind the gardening venture...that was just plain unbelievable!

Happy Blessed New Year!

I didn't accomplish much in the way of stitching this year either. Too many other things got in the way. However the work you completed in your garden is a huge accomplishment. You'll be able to sit back and enjoy it all this summer.
Your smocking is beautiful! My mother used to smock when she was younger and did many lovely children's things. Unfortunately most of her grandchildren are boys!
Happy New Year to you and your family!

You know Von... its not about the numbers, how many we finish... though we all do seem to count. Its about the journey and the joy!

You did some beautiful projects this year!

Thanks, Von, for the condolences and comment left on my blog.

I, too, love the last week of the year. It's such a hopeful week, full of promise.

You did much better in the stitching department last year than I, but, like you, I plan to try harder. What you did was stellar in its looks and quality. I love your stitching; have always admired it to the highest.

You certainly did some wonderful stitching last year. But, I think you win the award for most hard working gardener. Your back yard renovations were amazing.
Happy New Year from my home to yours.
