Summer days certainly fly by! It feels as if I'm standing still in a cyclone of activity all around me. Still, I'm finding a few minutes each day to just enjoy the summer by admiring my roses, watching the sunset, sitting on the patio and looking at how much more work needs to be done on the garden, etc. You'll notice that I do not mention needles and thread as we haven't seen much of each other over the last little while. I hope this changes soon.
Last weekend our family took our trailer to Camp Wooten to join many of our church members for a time of fellowship and fun. It's a great camp snuggled next to the Tucannon River in the nearby Blue Mountains. A short drive (by western standards) to a different world. The streams were loaded with tadpoles and tiny frogs and toads for all the small boys to catch and admire. Donnie Lake is home to many small snakes providing a challenge for the same boys to catch and handle. Watching these boys discovering Nature's wonders was probably the most enjoyable thing about the weekend for me. :D
DH and I spent some time away driving the primitive roads and finding a few geocaches. The scenery was spectacular.
On Monday DH and I witness the swearing in of our dsil into the Kennewick Police Department. He's now at the academy until mid-December. It's a big career change for him from software engineering, but his heart has always been in law enforcement.
Now and then I've coerced my boys into lending me a hand with the gardens. This west end of the back garden is slowly being double-dug, removing the rocks and roots and adding bag after bag of steer manure.
Earlier in the season I dug out the very front part, then planted two little rose bushes and some annuals. I really need to get the rest finished, about to the hose stand as I have three more roses to plant. It's a lot of hard work and I suppose I could rent some equipment, but I have three teenage boys! Those newly forming muscles need to be worked!
But the garden will have to wait a few days now as we're loading up the trailer again and heading out for the beach tonight. Leaving the high 90s temperatures for 60 degrees is always a shock to my system, but I love it - as long as I have my sweaters!

What a great post! And best wishes to your DSIL with his career change!
I know those temps, Von!! What great pics of your family, et al. I've been staying in and being lazy this week..reading and making jewelry and seeing Kellan and Jess some. Stiching is getting the short end! LOL Hugs, Deb
Sounds like you have been very busy! Maybe you will find a few moments to get a little stitching done while you're gone! Have a great trip.
good luck to your SIL's new job. Once your garden is done then you can sit in it and stitch all you want and enjoy the scenery.
Watching children discovering almost anything is so rewarding. Their delight in something as simple as an ant or a ladybug always amazes me. Unfortunately I think a lot of children are too wrapped up in electronic games and things to discover nature these days.
I'm jealous of the work you've gotten done on your garden so far...I wish I could claim as much done. Hope you have fun at the beach!
Hi Von, that needle and thread will be still be waiting for you. Sounds like a glorious summer to me-I wish I was more outdoorsy. Congrats to you DSIL on his new career!
Hi Von - it's been a long time since I've stopped by to say "hi." Sounds like you are enjoying a busy summer with family and friends. I see you are still working on your gardens - I'm sure it will be worth all the work when finished. You'll have such beautiful flowers to admire!
