Juneau

Juneau, the capital city of Alaska, was our first port of call. You can see that there's not much land available for building a town! The port area is built on top of the tailings of the abandoned mines directly above.
DH and I first took the tram ride up Mt. Roberts. From there we took in the panoramic views of Juneau and its surrounding mountains.

A close-up of our ship, MS Oosterdam, from the tram

From the Visitor Center atop Mt. Roberts, we took a half-mile hike, almost straight up. The alpine flowers were in full bloom!

On a neighboring peak we were able to spot three mountain goats feasting on the new grass. We also came upon a marmot just a few feet from the trail.

There's so much to write about that I'm planning to share a little bit each day, endeavoring to not bore you too much with detail. :)

My DS was able to make me a cd of my photos that could be uploaded to my computer. Now that my photos are safe, I can format that sd card so my computer will read it. But without my computer geniuses in the house, I'd still be in the last century, getting my film processed at Costco!

Thank goodness for the 'puter geeks, right? Without Niek, I'd be drawing stick people and setting them loose in bottles at sea. ;)

The pictures and commentary are wonderful! I'm eager for more!! :D
