Stash Aquisition

I've been promising a report of the stash I acquired on my VS Cyberstitcher weekend. While I didn't walk away the the largest bag, I'm very happy with my new things.

This first photo shows the contents of my bag from Cross Stitch Corner. From the markdown basket, I nabbed Linen Closet Labels by Liberty Street Designs. It has two sweet labels that say Fine Linens and Silk Threads which would be pretty on my storage boxes or hanging from the shelf where they sit. I also bought a Victoria Sampler Hearts of America - Idaho - since that is my home state. There are two cuts of 28ct Lakeside Linens, one is the light examplar color, the other is called tapestry teal. I also bought a 32ct linen in a blue-gray color.
The silk threads are Waterlilies Williamsburg, two skeins of Gloriana Luminescence in Rosa Linda, one skein of GL in Sable. One day I'll find just the right fabric to go with the Rosa Linda and I'll smock an adorable little baby dress as the colors are pink and yellow.

From Threadneedle Street, I bought the wonderful Cartonnage Brode au fil des boites which is filled with wonderful embroidered box projects. Of course, the entire book is in French. If my high school French fails me, I have a very good friend who has a degree in French and can help me translate. Looks to me like these projects are worth the translation!
The next book is Ribbon Embroidery and Stumpwork by Di van Niekerk, from South Africa. It gives wonderful step-by-step instruction in various RE stitches and how to combine them to create some gorgeous flowers. Stumpwork stitches are included too, bringing even more dimension to your project. There are hours and hours of enjoyable reading here!

Oh, I took along my "Where Women Create" book for Connie to take a look at. Well, Thea caught sight of it and almost went home with it! When she realized what she was doing, she sat right down and made note of the ISBN to get one for herself, lol! It really is inspirational for one's own "studio" however small or large it may be. Connie's been working on setting up a quiet stitching room for herself which you can see over on her blog; just click on her highlighted name above!

Guess I could throw in an SBQ answer as I have been neglecting them the last few weeks.

Do you stitch "on the go?" (On the commute to and from work, during
your lunch break, waiting for the kids, etc.) If so, do you have a
specific "travel" project or do you just grab whatever you happen to
be working on and take it with you?

I do like to take along a small project, something that doesn't require too much brain power or else the frogs will come visiting. There is not a specific "travel project" though. I've been thinking that I should have a little Grady gown in a ziploc bag in my Expedition to work on if I'm waiting for the kids somewhere. Smocking is very portable! However, I cannot stitch in the car while traveling, not because I get motion sick, but because I am just compelled to enjoy the beautiful creation outside the vehicle! I've always been that way, even as a small child, baby in fact, so my parents have told me. So usually I'm driving so that DH can play with his GPS, his PDA, or whatever other toy he's brought along for the trip, lol!

Von - do you do stumpwork? I have a kit in my stash that I've had for at least 5 or 6 years now - still haven't worked up enough courage to attempt it! You made some very nice purchases on your weekend away!

Glad to hear you survived the basement flooding! And yes, I have to admit my mess is always worse when I'm trying to clear out - makes me wonder why I started it sometimes! Your stash haul is great ... beautiful fabrics and books especially - LOVE the look of the French book :) And I've been thinking I really must start up my stumpwork again soon - I have at least 5 UFO's in stumpwork just sitting there ... hmmm ;P
