Happy Birthday Sampler

The Victoria Sampler Happy Birthday Sampler came out to play for the weekend and we had so much fun, it just might stay for a couple more days. When I last had it out, I hadn't quite finished the triple cross stitch row.

The triple cross stitch is the purple row near the top of the pic. In between each purple cross is an upright cross stitch in black. The next row is the vine/leaves/flowers that will have beads added later. After that is a row of pink giant cross stitches, then a row of herringbone which I adore done in the overdyed floss. Then we have the hemstitched row. Cutting the horizontal threads is always just a little nervewracking, but it came out great!

After the hemstitching is a little row of Yugoslav stitches in pink overdye, then a row of cup stitches. Both are a first for me. One little bead will be stitched inside each cup stitch once all the stitching is completed.

This morning I completed the next area of flowers that features a lovely little Rhodes stitch heart.

And here is the entire section finished this weekend.

It's been so much fun to stitch all those new embroidery stitches and there are several more to come!

I had a grand time babysitting Gideon on Saturday, even though he did have quite the crying spell for awhile. He just needed to cry it out and take a little nap, which he finally did. After 7 of my own babies, a little crying doesn't faze me, lol!

Football is back! I got to watch some college football as well as some of the NFL preseason games over the weekend. This is the season that makes it worthwhile to pay the cable bill.

Well, the new week is here and it's going to be a hot one in Kennewick - high 90s and 100 all week. But I do notice that it feels different this time of year. The sun is at a lower angle and doesn't seem so strong. My youngest daughter is spending the week in Texas, near Dallas, on a college ministry exchange. The Texas group visited up here in January, so now our kids are visiting there. They are far enough north that the hurricane isn't affecting them.

That's about it for now. Keep on keeping on!

This is so beautiful, I can understand that cutting the threads is nerve wrecking, well you did a great job. greetings from New Orleans, Alice

This so pretty. I had a little panic thinking you had missed a thread on your hemstitch row and then heaved a sigh of relief when I saw it was a basting thread! I look forward to seeing further progress. Irene x

Von, this is such a beautiful sampler. I love doing specialty stitches as well. And I particularly love the Rhodes stitch. Hence my love of The Drawn Thread's designs. They all have lots of specialty stitches and there is often a Rhodes heart among them. Great how you mastered the hem stitching.
