What I Did This Summer

Hmmmm, looks like the summer slipped away from me and my poor blog got lost in the shuffle. Well, my friends, there's been a lot going on and it's been a great summer.

We started off with my last child, Kirsten, graduating from high school. We hosted a party with another family because we have so many friends in common, as well as attending the same church. Made it easier for everyone!

It's hard to believe that I will never have to fill out that stack of paper that the school sends home, ever again!

Then in June, Gary and I got away for a business/fun trip to Amelia Island, Florida. We enjoyed the beach, the beautiful hotel, kayaking, meeting new people, and test driving BMWs that were available at the hotel!

I gotta say, it was hot and humid there on Amelia Island! But it prepared us for the 3-week heat wave that hit us when we got home. Yes, 3 weeks of 100 degrees or more, up to 115 on a couple of days. And we had irrigation water restrictions for our lawns. Things got a little brown and crinkley around here. At least we were allowed to freely hand water our gardens, so I made sure my roses got all the water they needed. Still some of the bushes got a little sunburned and there were either no blooms, or stunted little things.

On July 11, our son Kevin married his sweetheart, Sarah. We were worried about the outdoor wedding reception and the heat, but on Friday, the wind started blowing and on the wedding day it was a cool 90 degrees at reception time. Believe me, it felt delightful and as the sun went down, the breeze picked up a bit and it cooled down even a little more and we had a dance party!

After the wedding, we had our annual family reunion at Ocean Park, Washington. Then the twins headed back to college, and now Kirsten has started classes at the local community college, plus working two jobs. All the while I've been working in our insurance business, learning a little more every day. Just when I get comfortable with one part of the job, Gary will throw something new at me, and my brain goes into overload, lol!

Now we're having beautiful fall weather and I'm watching lots of football, doing a few gardening chores, teaching my ESL class twice a week, and NOT stitching. I just haven't figured out how to fit it into my new life yet. But I will!

Such an exciting summer. Loved seeing the pictures. Stitching has fallen off the grid here as well, but hoping to get started again....

Wow, there was a lot going on during the summer, so many family news. Having no more kids at highschool is like a milestone, isn't it? And congratulations on your son's wedding. And with the vacation and the job there certainly wasn't a lot of time for stitching or other hobbies. But at least the heat wave is gone and you can enjoy some cooler autumn weather.
