It's been a busy week here and thus not much time for blogging or blog reading - I'm really behind. I have a feeling that's how it's going to be all month.
The digging out project has been completed, but I've decided I need to add just a bit more to that and I hope I can get it done today. This photo is pretty bad with the high contrasting shadows, but you can see a line at the bottom of the fence where the dirt used to be. I probably took out 2 yards of dirt from this area.
What I'm going to do now is pull back the gravel and big rock from the left side of those roots to expose more of the roots. Then we can cut out those monsters and have a more level area. No tree will be damaged from the removal of those roots! That tree is long gone - and happily so. Actually there were two huge pine trees where my roses are now. I'd rather keep up a hundred roses than clean up after pine trees.
But pine trees are still a part of my life as my oldest daughter has lots of them on her property. And since they are hosting the family wedding at the end of the month, there are a lot of projects to be done over there. Yesterday we cleared off her front planting areas, filling two huge garbage bins, then planted some shrubs and plants in the bedding area that was previously bare. Next week we'll move on to another area, then another, and another . . . until the wedding.
It's going to look great!

I'm sure things will look wonderful. You are working so hard!!
Well I can see why you are so busy! I'm sure all the hard work will pay off and you will enjoy the results at the end of it!
Sounds like a busy gardening month for you--hope the weather cooperates so you can get it all done :) (Of course, with gardening, there is no such thing as "done," is there?)
My husband says gardening is a WIP....it's never finished.
What a lot of work. It will be even more beautiful when you are done. I share your sentiments on the pines. Our neighbors have a line of pines along the property line and we're constantly cleaning up after them....of course there's one less now, but it still has a major cleanup along with the oak. I'll be starting over 2 of my flower beds from scratch, so hope I do a better job planning this time.
Hard work - but awesome results!
I'm also behind on blog reading but can't even say why. Maybe the blog owners were posting too much, lol.
Gardening and yard work keeps my husband and I busy as well. But we are behind on this, too, because of the heat wave that we have been having for nearly two weeks now and it's impossible to work outside a lot when it's so hot. So everything slows down.
