A Much Needed Rest

Life is funny sometimes. Just when I was beginning to make plans for the next phase of my life, I find out it's not going to be what I thought.

In mid-December we found that we needed to move my Dad from Arizona to live with us in Kennewick. Thankfully we didn't have to do it immediately so we could get through the holidays and do a little household maneuvering before driving down. Mid-January Gary and I spent a week going thru the house and packing up the few things Dad needs, and getting him home with us. He did great on the trip, as did his little dog, Max.

Dad doesn't need skilled nursing, just some love and meals - and his meds. Still it does require me to rethink what the next ten years will be like. One thing I know, Dad's getting a little stronger and happier each day and life is good for him.

After all the work preparing for and actually moving Dad, I'm really ready for a little vacation in the sun! DH and I are about to embark on Carnival Glory heading for the W. Caribbean.

Ready . . . Set. . . Relax. . .

Isn't it funny how things happen.
There is a saying "Life is what happens to us while we're making plans."
I am sure you are comfortable with having your Dad with you and knowing he is safe and cared for.
Enjoy that much deserved vacation

That has been the story of my life the last 5 years..what was "supposed to happen" in the cycle of life has just became an illusion. That has been probably the hardest part in adjusting to all these huge changes, getting over a lifetime of thinking and expectations of what our 50's "should be". I'm glad to hear your dad is doing better. I know that with all that Paulson love surrounding him everyday, he will thrive! Have a great time on your trip. I have started counting the weeks until Maui!

Have a lovely trip Von, and then welcome back to life as the filling in the sandwich generation.
You are not alone!

Glad to hear that your Dad is doing well after the move. A change of that magnitude can be so hard on all involved. Hopefully the adjustment will be an easy one and everything will settle into place, and all will be well.

You certainly need a break, and what better way than a cruise. There's nothing like sitting in the sun (or shade!) with a good book or stitching and having lots of catnaps! Have fun!!

I'm hope you are able to work things out now that your Dad has joined you. I know there will be an adjustment period for everyone.
In the meantime, have a super trip and enjoy yourself!

I know caring for a parent is hard, I watched my Mom do it until my Granny passed, but it was worth it...because it brought my Mom so much in memories of the heart.
God Bless you Von, for doing this...will pray for you and your father.
Have a BLAST on the cruise!
