Softball!

Here we go again!

Kirsten really surprised me. She wants to play softball, even on a new team with girls she doesn't know. Her old team didn't continue on, but she is. Of course, she quickly made friends with the girls on this team - The Lightning.

First game was last Saturday - finally a beautiful sunny day (which we've had several of since). The Lightning started in the field and you could tell they had a bit of the first-game jitters. But once that half of the inning was over, they began to pull it together, winning the game 15-10.

And on 1st base.

The American Heritage Girls (AHG) year is coming to a close. We've been working on the geology badge and one of the requirements was getting a topographical map, studying it, then going to that place. Thankfully the USGS website has downloadable topo maps!!

Just south of Kennewick is a big butte called Jump Off Joe with a conglomeration of communications towers and dishes - and an amazing view of the entire Tri-Cities area. I chose this landmark to focus on the topography, as it's steep on one side (facing town), but gently slopes down the other side, and you drive up a canyon to get to the top of the butte.

The day was another beautiful spring day in the Tri-Cities.

Wind power is definitely making an imprint on our landscape.

The road comes up from the backside of the butte, so the amazing 180^ view when you crest the top of the hill is breathtaking.

This is just a small portion of the view. I was initially concerned that it would take too long to drive "clear out there" but it took about 15-20 minutes; plenty of time for the girls to gather wildflowers and braid them in each other's hair. :)

Now on to the next thing - preparing for dd Melanie's college graduation tomorrow and party on Saturday!

Sounds like you've been a busy lady this past week! That view from the butte is really lovely. I've noticed the lights at night from our local baseball diamond so I know the season is in full swing now.

These scenic pictures are wonderful. I'd like to stand on top of the butte and look around. Must be a dream.
