How I Spent Last Week

No stitching, didn't get out to prune the roses. There's a newborn grandson that needs to be held, and I'm up to the job - and so are the aunts and uncles. :)

I also did a little more than my usual share of washing dishes and folding laundry by helping out the new mother of aforementioned grandson. What fun to be in a house with young children, especially when the weather is nice enough for them to be outside expending energy! Their imaginations are constantly entertaining.

And it's most consoling to be with the small ones after you've been shopping with your very youngest child, and come home with a dress like this one.

This almost-grown-up young woman cannot be my baby! But it is. She was in desperate need of some new clothes that actually fit, especially for church. Thank the Lord that Kohls had a nice sale and some decent dresses and skirts (shopping for a young almost teen can be so frustrating!). So here is Kirsten all ready to leave for the Father-Daughter Ball. They had a great time together, and with their friends.

I've begun a new endeavor that's eating quite a bit of my time, in addition to baby holding; I've started an online course in medical transcription. It's school on my terms which I hope will lead to a job with enough flexibility for me to help with grandchildren, run kids around to various activities, craft, stitch, and garden, and still make a little extra income. With a "baby" that will be in high school in the fall of next year, my homeschool career will end and I thought transcribing at home would be a good career to begin.

It's a challenge to be learning in a more formal way once again. There is certainly a lot to learn! But with my background as an executive secretary, I have the basic keyboarding and English skills, and even transcribing experience, to build new skills on. It's good for the kids to see Mom working on homework while they are doing the same. :)

So I'd better get back to it!

What a funny coincidence, Von. On Friday, I had to take my mom to some medical appointments and a friend of hers came along. The friend I were talking about work, and she'd just retired from being a medical transcriptionist. She said there was an incredible amount of work to be done in the field, but at 72 (!!) she wanted more time for her own interests. Good luck and do keep us posted!

You can stitch any old time--that adorable baby won't stay a baby for long, as evidenced by your baby. What a beautiful girl! They grow up too quickly, don't they?! It's hard to find appropriate clothes for that age for girls, too--glad you lucked out at Kohls. Best of luck with the new course!

Congratulations on your new grandson Von. As for your other baby she is still just that - when your youngest baby gets to be 35 as mine will be next month, then you begin to worry lol.
