XC Season

The start of school equals the start of the cross country season. Saturday was the Tracy Walters Invitational in Spokane, our first meet of the year and a very big deal for the team. Two of the Spokane teams at the meet are #1 in their league and very high in the national rankings, having large teams with talent that runs very deep. Cross country is huge in Spokane, largely thanks to the coaching efforts of Tracy Walters who was on hand at the meet to fire the starting gun for the races and congratulate the winners.

The top ten runners ran in the Varsity race. Kyle was #11, Kevin #13 following the results of the Jamboree the week before, so they were on the front starting line of the JV race. That alone says a lot for how hard they've been working and how far they've come since starting the sport last fall!

The start of the varsity race

Our guys let Ferris and North Central know we were there with Varsity placing 3rd and JV coming in 4th. Kyle came in 12th at 18:22, inching out a North Central guy for that position. Kevin ran 18:50 for 18th place, just ahead of their good friend Stevie May who won the 19th place ribbon.

The weather in Spokane was gorgeous on Saturday, Audubon Park was wooded and beautiful, providing a very nice race course - all in all, it was a good day.

This afternoon Gary and I drive over to the Portland, Oregon, area for an overnight business event. So of course, son Brendan is ill this morning. And the xc team has a league meet over in Yakima tomorrow that we'll miss. Mr. B isn't so ill that I need to stay home with him, but I am going to the store and will buy Lysol so he can spray the bathroom down when he comes out of his room. We really don't need the whole household sick, especially during xc season!

So I'm off to repack the suitcase, which I haven't emptied yet from Spokane, lol!

I thoroughly enjoyed Peter's Senior year by attending as many of his Cross Country races and Track meets as I could!!

He wants to join CC and Track at Cal State Fullerton, but he's still nursing an injury that he needs physical therapy for...so hopefully, there's more running to come!!
