Amazing Weekend

The Pacific Northwest had absolutely gorgeous weather this weekend and many of us took great advantage of it! Saturday DH's dad and stepmom were visiting from Boise. Since my dfil is in a wheelchair and our home entry is a difficult fit for him, we met at a nearby park that is wheelchair friendly and we all had a great time. Included in the party besides all my family was a cousin of my stepmil who brought her family down from Spokane. So there were lots of kids to watch play and run around, as well as our dog. I just wish we'd have thought to bring along the camera, but I thought that was DH's department and he didn't think of it.

Friday evening was the Pinewood Derby for our American Heritage Girls troop and Kirsten walked off with first place for speed! It's really fun to see the cars the girls make and contrast them with what the boys do. Overall, the girls seem to make parade float-like cars and don't care as much who actually wins the race, although they do enjoy the racing portion. Kirsten has been influenced by her older brothers, obviously. :)

I pulled out Quaker Study the last few days finishing the second row of letters and starting the next row of motifs.

Colonials Crafts had the WDW winter special edition overdyes I needed. When it arrived, I found that the Chimney Sweep was not the same coloring at all from my original skein; it had much more brown, hardly any black. So while shopping at the Button Boutique in Victoria, I found a WDW skein that much more closely matches the original Chimney Sweep overdye I began this project with. I don't know what happened, why the two skeins were so different, but I'm grateful to have found a good substitute and be working through AQS.

The roses in my back yard are just beginning to bloom as is the purple/yellow iris. I so enjoy seeing the plants come back to life.

Kevin said to me the other night that in the middle of the winter, he had doubts that the garden was going to come back and that he's enjoying the new blooms. Woot!

Perhaps he'll be a more willing yard worker! lol!

Way to go Kirsten on first place! And it sounds like you had a great weekend. Your Quaker looks so pretty. And you know, I've run into the same problem with threads. It's hard sometimes to match what you started with. Don't know why that happens, but it seems to a lot with WDW and GAST.

I had to completely restitch a new design model because the Weeks thread new skeins were so wildly different than the threads I had started with! Caron does the same thing too...their colors with the same name vary even in colors used for the overdyes! Lesson learned, be sure and have enough thread before stitching starts! LOL!

Such pretty blossoms!

Congrats to your racer. I've never seen girls' cars before, but I can imagine that they look quite a bit different than the boys'.

On our family ATS's, we've really noticed the different colors each dye lot of thread has when it's hand-dyed. Sometimes the differences make them look like a completely different color. Maybe that's part of the charm.
