Still Around

When I last posted, DH, Kirsten, and I were in Missoula. DH left very happy and tired after finding about 150 geocaches in 30 hours. We left Missoula and headed north to Flathead Lake, Kalispell, and Glacier National Park.

Mission Mountains
south of Kalispell

I've been wanting to return to this part of Montana for years as my family frequently vacationed in this area when I was young, and the beautiful scenery has been etched into my memory.

Lake McDonald, Glacier National Park

We entered Glacier Park at West Glacier and made a quick stop at Apgar for this lovely view of the lake. Logan Pass, which is also known as the Going to the Sun Road was still closed as they're still working to get all the snow off the road. (I just checked the website and they're almost ready to open.) This so disappointed me as it is a positively spectacular drive and I really wanted DH to experience it. Guess it just means we'll have to make another trip!

As we were driving I suddenly heard this tremendous roar of the river and I quickly drove into the pullout to see what it was. Look at how full this river is! All the rivers we saw on our trip are filled with spring runoff.

We stopped by the Lodge to enjoy the lake a little more before we drove to the east side of the park, the long way around.

We drove to East Glacier, then continued north to Canada. Chief Mountain grabbed our attention all along the way.
We crossed the Canadian border and ended up spending the night at Pincher Creek, Alberta, pulling in about 10:00 p.m. with light still in the sky. What a beautiful day filled with the grandeur of God's creation!

Those are gorgeous pictures. We were going to drive through Glacier NP on a trip to Calgary, but we ran out of time and ended up flying there and back. Someday.

I used to live in Kalispell - a lifetime ago - Thank you SO much for the pictures. I haven't been there in far too many years.

I still stand that Glacier Park is - hands down - the most beautiful place I've ever been. God's country indeed.

Wow, those are incredible photos! I can only imagine what it would be like to see that in person. I'm so glad you had a great time over your birthday!

No wonder you wanted to go back, Von! How breath-taking that place is! When I was in the States briefly in 1994/5, I reported that eveerything was bigger than in the UK, including the scenery!!!=)

Yup, there's nothing like some time spent out of the cuty to help you really connect back to the wonders of creation. We can so easily forget it during daily life.
