Shaw Mountain Adventure

Saturday was such a beautiful day in Boise we decided to trek up into the hills to visit some land that dfil owns up on Shaw Mountain. Just 17 miles out of town, you can find yourself in a gorgeous, near-wilderness area.

Looking back towards Boise, this is part of the road we traveled up Shaw Mountain - the easy part!

One of about twenty deer we saw.

Once at our destination, we started a nice campfire and munched on turkey sandwiches. Although the sun was shining, it was COLD, so the fire felt really good! The boys got to do a little target practice and Daniel (dd Melanie's boyfriend) got to use his chainsaw on a dead tree, cutting it up for future campfires. He also worked with Kyle on axemanship skills for badge requirements for Cadets. Most of the gang headed off on a hike to a spring, while Kirsten and I stayed at "camp" keeping the fire going.

Much too soon the sun was setting and we needed to head back for home and that leftover pie!
