Back to School

Well, the three youngest kids and I have resumed our fall homeschool schedule, Brendan is back at Kamiakin HS, and Melanie has started at Washington St. Univ. - Tri-Cities. Rolling out of bed at 6:30 a.m. is not easy for me, but is good for me. I don't have to function at a high level at that hour - just make coffee, be sure Brendan is up, getting ready, then out the door by 7 a.m., start breakfast, and perhaps sit in my chair for a few minutes with my coffee. Then the homeschoolers begin to rise and come upstairs for breakfast. Melanie and Geoff are on their own. Mom doesn't roust them out of bed, nor do they need me too - hurray!

Here are my homeschoolers at their posts. This year I bought a new table for Kevin and Kyle, bringing them out from their bedroom where they've done their schoolwork for the last couple of years. My desk is right behind them and Kirsten's desk is a wall-mounted unit across from K&K.
Please excuse the mess - it's usually this way as it is in almost constant use. Actually Kirsten's desk looks pretty good, lol. I'm so glad we have the space to dedicate to school activities and not have to use the dining table (but we've done that too!).

I have nothing but the highest admiration for home-schoolers, I've thought of doing it myself, but with a job on the weekends, I just don't know if I could do it and make life work. You make it seem effortless :)

Oh my goodness, this looks like a well-oiled machine, Von! I absolutely admire you for what you do as a homeschooler, as you know! Good luck with the new school year!

Makes me long for the scent of just-sharpened pencils and brand-new notebooks ....

Wow! it all looks pretty organised to me. I think desks need a bit of "mess" to show they are well used :-)
Kirsten looks so happy - like she really enjoys her school work. Good job to you.

How amazing and unusual! (Well, it is here!). Is there a reason for your children not going to school? Or is it an educational choice? You must find me very curious but all that concerns children and school is a constant questioning for myself. I feel the school system does not work the way it should... Well... Answer only if you want to.
Lots of hugs, dear Von!

Yes, Von. I'm curious too as to how parents homeschool their children. Maybe you can blog about it when you have the time.

That's really neat how your kids all have their own little area for school. I did one year of school at home, but I mainly worked in my bedroom or at the dining room table. This must be so much more productive!! It looks like a fantastic set-up. :)

Go Von. I am the first to admit I am a terrible teacher/instructor. I enjoy being a SAHM, but emphasis on the Mom.

I appreciate the school my children attend - it is a mile away & a small school system.

I know we just got lucky & moved into this home when we did.

Kudos to you for juggling all you do & it looks seamless on your blog!!
