Plymouth Weekend

DH and I found ourselves in between trips this last weekend, so we packed up the youngest kids, plus one friend for Kirsten, packed up the trailer, and headed down to Plymouth, Washington, only 30 miles from home. The campground there is a nice little park with nice shady sites, just a few minutes from the interstate highway, right on the Columbia River. We spent Saturday geocaching, finding 7 of them, and exploring the area. I had never been to the Hat Rock State Park (Oregon) and didn't know there is a cool subdivision there hidden in the bluffs.

One geocache took us four-wheeling on a road that was little more than a cow trail. This cache was definitely worth the hassle as the girls were thrilled to open the cache and find it filled with small stuffed Easter bunnies. They each took one, putting in another item to trade, and spent the remainder of the trip squeaking at each other through their bunnies, lol! You can imagine how annoyed the older brothers were at such silliness.

On Sunday we spent some time near McNary Dam, looking at fish going up the fish ladder, then doing a little more geocaching. I usually stick pretty close to the vehicle, and did so this morning. It was just so pleasant to enjoy the fishing streams running through the area and watch the birds.

I was able to get a few stitches in on Saturday while waiting for the family to return to the car, but didn't make enough progress on "Silk Threads" to warrant a picture. Most of my stitching time lately has been taken up in my garden. Four more little roses came in the mail last week and I think they've adjusted enough to be planted today. And wouldn't you know, I've ordered four more climbers! I applied another round of fertilizer yesterday, and today my back is complaining about all that bending over. :) Gotta get used to it, cuz there are lots more projects to be done in the coming weeks.

Here's the robin feeding the babies. As long as we stay at least six feet away from the nest, the parents are happy and continue providing food for them. There are three little ones and they make quite a chirping noise when the food arrives! I can't believe how fast they're growing and I suppose they'll be ready to leave the nest by the time DH and I arrive home from our cruise.

And I cannot end this post today without thanking all of you, my dear stitching blogger friends, for all your birthday wishes, emails, etc. Really, you make having a birthday something to look forward to again - like when I was ten years old! How cool is that?! Just yesterday I received a sweet card from AnneS and found three skeins of blue VC silk floss! She knows that blue is my favorite color too - what a friend! Thanks so much Anne!

Sounds like it was a great trip! I loved camping with my 3 boys when they were young. I especially like the 2nd pic. It looks so peaceful!

My husband is interested in geocaching...anything that lets him fiddle around with GPS. I can see him doing that with our girls when they get a bit older.

Belated happy 50th! I'm glad you are doing something special for it. Sounds like an excellent adventure, though your 'smaller' adventures are pretty cool too. I had to ask Sean to look up geocaching-wow, that sounds like a fun activity. Nice photos!!!

What a bunch of lovley pictures. Whenever I read previos posts about geocaching, I thought you mean collecting Geodes, which is a passtime around our parts, now I know I'm totally wrong...so could you explain what it is? Sorry, I'm a little s-l-o-w....
Daisies are favorite flower of mine and those are beautiful and your robins are sweet!
Hope your back is better! Mine is hurting from a frighteningly long bike rike my dear family took...it's the first time I've been on a bike in about 10 years! Walking yes, biking no! But I guess since everyone is bike mobile now (besides Ellie who is content in her bike seat) that biking is big in my future :)

A late Happy Birthday to you Von! So sorry that I missed it! You are still a spring chicken! I turned 55 this last December, but hey you're only as old as you feel! Your pictures are really great! I am originally from Idaho but never got to see a lot of Washington. Thanks for sharing! Debby :)
