Sugar High

This morning we had a short impromptu family gathering. The reason? Not only do the cookies vanish into thin air, one gallon of ice cream disappeared in a day and a half.

I've had discussions before on proper serving sizes and I know I have lots of teenagers in the house, but this is just ridiculous!! So once again, we went over what constitutes a serving of ice cream. And they're all on notice that if this happens again, I don't buy any more ice cream. A jar will be on the counter for them to contribute to the ice cream fund. When there is enough, I'll buy ice cream. Or they can get their own and just gorge themselves if they want.

It's not like there's nothing to eat in this house! Grrrr.

I do feel for you, Von, but if you have all this sort of lovely food in the house, you just *have* to eat it. That's what I do, anyway...

I suppose that's right, An. Perhaps I should ban all such goodies from the house. I'd be better off for it. :D
Think I'll go to the gym now.

I have to admit, I'm the same ... if it's in the house I'll eat it, if it's not I don't generally miss it - go figure! You soon work out the price of things yourself when you move out of home, that's for sure, so it's great that you're teaching your kids the important things like this :D

I have to buy 2 half gallons of ice cream a week for my family, and I don't even eat it. So I know what you mean about it disappearing.

It's irksome for me when I buy a treat specifically for my tastes, and it ends up getting eaten before I even get a chance to have more than one serving! I have taken to hiding the treats at times!!! Or how about when they eat everything out of the box and leave the empty box in the cupboard and you don't know it's all gone until you REALLY want some and find the box empty!!! I like the idea of the jar for an ice cream fund! I may have to try that one of these days!

Oh, Connie, don't get me started about finding empty boxes in the pantry! It happens every week and of course, no one knows anything about it. Most of the time I don't care that the food is gone, that's why I buy it. But for heaven's sake, throw away the container!

My consolation is imagining the future when my grandchildren are doing the same thing to them and I can just snigger and say, "Now you know what you did to me!" :D

Oh dear! The ice cream fund (which you could extend for all "treat food" ) sounds like a good idea - maybe if they have to pay for it, they'll make it last just that little bit longer...;)

It's amazing how much stuff teenagers can eat! I like the jar idea :)

I mark certain things as "mom and dad" only items. Otherwise when I go to get it, there isn't any. I also have "don't touch" cabinet, LOL. As far as the other stuff ges, when it's gone it's gone and I only buy it every other shopping trip. I must say when my two do that I find it irritating, just seems a bit greedy to me :-). The teenage appetite is something to behold, LOL.

Teenagers... mine aren't that age yet, but I only think of that day and get a headache :D

I see we are in the same RR! Awesome :D We'll be fine I am sure, it will just take some getting used to, and uh... buying more stash with houses on it for ideas ;)

I see you got lots of snow last week as well. It's all melted now.

I think having your kids contribute to an ice cream fund is an excellent idea!

LOL!!!
I can understand your frustration at the vanishing of food in the house! This is really unbelievable!
Hans and Jaeger look too cute with their cuppas... They make me melt!
Take care!

Teenagers just know food is to eat no matter what it is. If you lived closer I would say store the ice cream at my house it will be safe. I don't like ice cream. But now put cookies in front of me! That's another story!

If they know it's there, they will come. sometimes I hate going to the grocery store, because as soon as we get it, it seems to be gone! You think of some really neat ideas. How is the laundry going?

My mum once bought us a bottle of orange jiuce each, as no-one 'knew' who had drunk it all. We drank each others then. I just buy once in a month, there is none once it is gone.

Oh dear. I'm afraid I'd be the main culprit if I lived with you. I do so love ice cream, even if it isn't good for me.

Ice cream doesn't last very long around here either - although I generally don't buy it in the winter. Too cold!

We have gone through the same issue, my kids did't seem to grasp the concept of not eating ice cream out of cereal bowls (or larger).

I ended up just buying ice cream about once a month, and when its gone, its gone, until next month.

Although we are all anxiously awaiting Dairy Queen's 1/2 price day this Saturday!

Thank you so much for your kind comment & your thoughts & prayers Vona - they meant so much to me. I feel so blessed to be a part of this warm & caring community.
The picture your grandsons drinking tea is so adorable. You must be such a proud Nana.
