SBQ - All Knotted Up

This week's SBQ is : How do you secure your thread when you begin a new one? Specifically, do you or have you ever used a waste knot?

Like many other stitchers, I appreciate the ease of the loop method of securing a new thread. What a revelation when I first came across that technique! But I also run under previous stitching or stitch over the tail as needed. I only knot my thread when smocking or embroidering. But the waste knot is helpful when beginning a hardanger project, or in similar situations. If you're careful in placing the waste knot and stitch over the thread in the first few stitches, you don't have to "waste" much thread. It's a very useful technique that I've come to appreciate!

Hi Von! I'm clueless as to what the loop method is. I do a waste knot with a knot (just a tail).

Hi Von I usually use the loop method I find it makes the back much neater. I just read about your grandson and I'm so sorry to hear it.
