A box came for me on Monday! Look at the goodies inside!
Our good friend, Carol, was busy dividing iris from her garden this year and was kind enough to send me a few extra rhizomes to get my garden started. I have always loved iris, of all sorts, ever since my mother had some in our garden when I was a girl. Hoeing weeds was a dreaded chores, but I was always cheered by the iris blossoms which bordered the vegetables.
On Sunday we had a nice rain shower, so the soil was ready to receive the new rhizomes. I dug plenty deep to loosen the soil; you can see the rocks I pulled out and put to the side. I have dug in this soil and worked it over for almost 20 years, and still I dig up rocks! Anyway, the rhizomes need to be planted very shallow, so there's just a slight covering of soil. The days have been nice and warm, so I'm hoping they will root well before winter. They will receive lots of sunlight, drainage is good here, so next spring they should give me some beautiful blooms. We're just not sure what colors, one is purple Carol assured me. :)
Thank you, Carol, for helping to beautify my new border gardens!

I too love iris- it was one of my grandmother's favorites. Can't wait to see how they bloom in the spring- which is feeling a looooong way away.
