Better Now!

I've been feeling much better the last couple of days. This virus was different from most colds I get, perhaps it was sinusitis. Oh well, it's over now and I'm back to normal activity levels - which would probably be slow motion for some of you!

Yesterday my two favorite little boys came over to visit while their Mom taught and took her siblings to American Heritage Girls and Cadets (for the boys). They had both had really good naps and were in great moods and ready for some fun at Nana's house!

I decided that we needed to bake some bread, so out came the machines. First out was the grain mill that ground the wheat into flour - a noisy process! Hans stood on the step stool and pushed the buttons for me and poured the grain into the hopper, while Jaeger explored my kitchen cabinets. After we made flour, the Bosch mixer came out and Hans helped me pour the ingredients into the mixing bowl. Jaeger, meanwhile, found my plastics drawer and pulled out all the lids, then found great joy in the bags of coffee that made an interesting sound when shaken. In the midst of all this I remembered why I loved having little children in the house!

Unfortunately, the boys had to leave before the loaves were ready for the oven, so we didn't get to share a slice of warm bread. But when they finally did come out of the oven, I cut one slice anyway, and enjoyed the first baking of the fall/winter season.

I said I'd been doing a little stitching during my lunch break - as you can see, it's very little! But it's progress nevertheless. There's not too much left on this 2003 SB ornament! I've been thinking about those pricey charms that go with each design, and think that I'm going to keep an eye open for less expensive charms that I might find at the craft store(s) over the next few months. Or maybe even try fashioning something from FIMO like several other bloggers have done recently.

Well, I've had a hankering to pull out my sewing machine and play with my crazy patch pieces some more. Sounds lots better than doing another load of laundry! :)

Your SB project is looking great! I think I would go for cheaper charms or home-made buttons, too.

Homemade bread - Von, you are killing me! There is nothing better than smelling bread cooking in the oven.

I love the SB piece you are working on. I have wanted to do this since the fourth ornament came out in the JCS issues.

I've done all these ornaments too!
I bought cheaper charms at the craft store for some and stitched the others (like sheperd's hook and building...)
Yours are looking fabulous! I did a bit of baking myself today!
:o)

Your SB Ornament is really cute!! You are doing a great job on it. I started Pear Tree Inn and ended up restarting it as the thread bled onto the fabric and woudln't come out! UGH.. Now I see that if you rinse in ice water it should come out so I thought I would pass that info on to everyone. I love Little House Needleworks. And I even still love using overdyed threads. Guess I am a glutton for punishment hehehehe. Stitching is always more fun than doin laundry, I agree.

I loved reading about your bread making adventures - and can't believe you even mill your own flour!! You're my hero! :D I agree with you on the SB charms issue - I'd definitely go for cheaper/alternative options :)

You were ambitious for not being up to par. I remember doing things with Sean when he was little to get my mind off my aches and pains or whatever. It usually helped.
I haven't made bread for the longest time. : ) Sounds delish!

Your stitching looks wonderful too!

Oh I bet you were just sick at having to cut more fabric! I think we have all had something like that as I know I have. I now have heard that if a person has thread bleed into the fabric, you should rinse in ice water until it all comes out. I started on 32ct fabric for my second start on my project and love it so all is not lost and I am back to where I was now. You do really pretty stitching though! Thank you for stopping by my blog! Yes, those charms are pricey. Good luck finding substitutes.

This will be beautiful when finished.

Good to read you are feeling better after your virus got you down a few days. That stuff hangs on way too long.
