Swim Meets are for Stitching

Time for stitching has been sadly lacking this summer. As I reflect on years gone by, this is quite normal for me. There are just so many other activities that take precedence. But one of those activities this year lends itself to a little stitching time - the weekly swim meet!

The boys have to be there at least 45 minutes before the meet, and sometimes the meet runs three hours. So as we packed up the car last Saturday morning, I put in my stitching project folio. I worked on my "Stitch" banner completing the flowers, leaves, and backstitched vines. There are some beads that need to be attached, but I'll end the project with those. Then I decided to go ahead and begin the hemstitching. On a couple of previous banner projects, counting the fabric threads, pulling and reweaving threads has been a problem for me; you'd think after all these years of counted thread work I could read a chart and count, lol!

Before the meet ended, I had all the threads pulled and rewoven. Then today I chauferred my DH to the Yakima office (I drove, he worked on his computer). While waiting for him to install some monitors and take care of some other issues, I did some of the hemstitching. Then we went out for lunch, finished at the office, and we drove back to Kennewick. Nice to spend some time away from the home projects and get a little stitching done. And tonight is the monthly smocking guild meeting, so I'll do a little more.

What a very sweet little piece. Congrats on your drawn thread work - that's certainly challenging!

This banner is looking really nice Von...you are clever doing the pulled thread work...I've never tried it yet. You have a good idea with the way you manage to fit some stitching in :-)
