It's been a very busy, noisy morning and at 11 a.m. I feel like I've put in an entire day's work. At 8 a.m. the windows guys drove in and got busy installing the new windows. While we had a good start on moving furniture and things away from the windows, the last minute things hadn't been done yet like removing the blinds. Then we moved downstairs to move all my school and craft/sewing/stitching desks and things away from the outside walls. The kids had to get involved in picking up all the pieces of paper and junk that find their way to all the hidden, dark places and vacuuming the floors.
One other important job we did was to move a robin's nest. The robin couple had built a cozy nest in between the back patio light and the house, under the deck. A very nice, dry place to raise little birds. That is, until the window guys cut open the house to install a slider! So DH loosened the light fixture and we gloved up to cut the scent from our hands, then moved the nest a few feet to the deck supports. After half an hour or so, the father flew to the nest with a worm for the young ones causing great rejoicing in the kids who had been anxiously watching.
DD Melanie's graduation went very well. It was the first graduation I'd been to in a long time where the speeches were very practical and straightforward. Usually, especially at college graduations, you hear a lot of sappy, way-out-there speakers spouting off about some political agenda. I especially loved the alumnus' speech. He's a local businessman and the focus of his speech was how to get and keep a job, his points being very direct - he was great!
Saturday afternoon was our Open House party for Melanie and Ruth. Ruth's sister brought a bucket of gorgeous flowers from a cutting garden near her home. The centerpiece she made for the main table was filled with wonderful, HUGE peonies interspersed with delphinium. DH hasn't put up his pics of the party yet and I sure hope he got one of that arrangement! We had a nice turnout and I think we all had lots of fun. There were some leftovers, but not overly much so we guestimated pretty well!
Father's Day afternoon DD Mystie and her family joined us for grilled steaks out on our new back patio. The weather was a perfect 85 degrees, no wind, gorgeous day! It was nice to enjoy the green of the new lawn, then imagine all the plants growing in the borders. After evening service at church, DH spent a little time on the deck enjoying the evening and the beautiful sunset.
