A Fine Spring Day in the Park

Friday afternoon Kirsten and I met the Fairchild girls and their mom at Howard Amon Park in Richland so the girls could ride their bikes and play for awhile. The weather was so perfect (the photos are not mine, but borrowed from the City of Richland's website) that not even the seagulls could detract from the loveliness of the day. There is a walkway that runs along the river for several miles, perfect for biking, strolling, blading, etc. Of course, with the girls on bikes and moms on their feet, we didn't take advantage of all those miles of shoreline, but soon ended up sitting in the shade watching the girls play on the new equipment in the park.

Years ago when I had a few small children I spent many wonderful hours in this park with other homeschooling moms. There's so much for all the kids to do, with great shade trees, and most importantly - a decent bathroom! Friday we saw a gaggle of Canada geese with probably fifteen to twenty goslings marching from the park to the river. Very sweet!

Friday evening we attended the wedding reception of Ben and Emeth Casbon, who were married in Tokyo on April 1. Ben's parents hosted the event in their back yard. Very relaxing, lots of fun.

Saturday we had to prepare for guests coming over that evening. I was making it pretty simple and informal for all of us and threw a pork shoulder into the crock pot and made shredded bbq pork - yummmm! But we had lots of cleaning to do, so of course, dh takes the three youngest fishing!

He registered the kids ($5) for the Fishing Kids day a few weeks ago. Yes, for $5 the kids got a t-shirt and a fishing pole with bait and a freshly stocked fishing pond - limit three fish each child. Kevin and Kyle caught two, Kirsten caught three and the biggest!

When they returned home we cleaned windows and doors and floors. I sure do like this place when it's all cleaned up, lol! We had three other couples over for a little potluck supper and enjoyed the conversation immensely.

Today I need to work on some soldier costumes for the upcoming play and perhaps end the day with a little stitching.

You really make beautiful pictures, Von! The artist's eye!
I loved fishing trouts in the trout farm as a kid! Those are great memories of happy childhood you are giving to your kids, for sure!
Thanks for sharing!
Lots of stitching hugs!

Sounds like a great weekend! Nothing like a bike and play in the park :)

Great catches too - what a great scheme, I can think of some little (and big!) boys who would love it here too.

Hope the soldier costumes go well.
