Bids and Mowing and a Play

The new windows for our house have been ordered and are scheduled to begin installation June 19 - yippee! Today's mail brought one of the landscaper's bids for my back yard work and the cost wasn't too bad. I'm waiting for one more bid, so I hope to have a landscaping contract signed by the end of the week. Hmmmm, oh yes, we need one more hvac bid. We really want that in before the summer heat sets in.

Now we have to get our family room ready for construction - something I've wanted to do for years. What I'm not looking forward to is dealing with all the stuff. Well, I'm sure the pain of decluttering and temporary storing will be well worth it. Let's get on with it!!

Every 15 year old boy needs to earn some money, right? Of course, right! DS Brendan has been mowing the church yard for awhile now, as well as our own, and enjoys having some extra cash. A friend pulled him aside at church with a lead on a part-time lawn mowing job for a guy running a little business to pay for school. Brendan will only be working with him on Saturdays, but all day Saturday, and earning a nice amount of money for a kid. He'll have to work like he's never worked before, but it'll be really good for him. I just hope he can do a good job for the guy - Brendan hasn't been too much of a perfectionist before and I understand this guy is.

All this is wonderful, except now the mom comes out in me because he starts this Saturday and Brendan will be performing in "Taming of the Shrew" as Hortensio. The boy is going to be totally beat, but has to get cleaned up and ready for the play. He says he'll be fine, but he's never put in a day like he's going to have on Saturday, lol! Well, we will see.

Well, I'm off to work on those soldier uniforms some more. I didn't have a chance to work on them yesterday evening as the boys were wearing them for their rehearsal. The twins said they weren't looking forward to their performances this weekend because that meant it was all over and they were having way too much fun.

Hi! Wow... by the time you get all your summer projects done, it will be like a new house! I would be most excited about the landscaping... That is something we really need! Our yard is still the neighborhood ball field... and we don't have any younger kids!

Hope you can schedule in some time for relaxing and a little stitching.

I am so happy for you Von. You know misery loves company and I am so glad to see you starting your basement project. LOL At least mine is almost over with the new redo of the family room. It would be nice if DH had the time to get to the tiling so that I can cross that off my list. :)

You must be so excited at the prospect of new windows and landscaping!

I hope Brendan is able to combine working and the play (and the million other things that teenagers have going on). I worked regularly from a pretty young age and I'm glad of it. Good for him!!

Yeah, Summer employment. Nicholas has a lead on yard work, too. They are supposed to phone around 3:30 today.

Sounds like Tori will be at a different Subway location - closer to home (keeping my fingers crossed).

So, my internet time is not long - trying to keep the phone line open. For some reason, cell phones don't always work in the house : )

I don't think you should worry too much about Brendan's work: I'm sure he will be more perfectionist as there is money to earn, AND a boss whose opinion will count enough to make him do his best...
He will sure be exhausted, but I am always surprised at the energy kids his age can have! He will definitely need a good loooong night afterwards, though!
Take care!

Ahhh, the pleasure of a hard day's work outside. He's going to sleep very well Saturday night. :)

I'm excited that plans continue to move forward for your renovations! It's a good excuse to go through everything in your family room and finally get rid of all of that stuff that you've probably been meaning to for a long time. It's a good feeling - enjoy!

Wow! You are busy, busy, busy! I'm sure that both the house and the yard will be lovely once all these projects are completed!

I can relate to decluttering and all that jazz for construction. Beats moving everything all at once I guess. It's all worth it in the end.
Sean is looking for a job and has been applying online. It just doesn't seem right to me as so far noone has called.

New windows on order - that is so exciting. We had all the windows/doors in our house replaced in February and I love them. Good luck with your upcoming family room renovations - we went through that one last fall ourselves! Its hectic but well worth the trouble in the long run.

Good luck to Brendan on his Saturday job and play!
