Mommy Wars

Mommy wars in my life have nothing to do with the SAHM vs working mom hooey you get in the media. No, the true mommy war is mommy vs. teenager on the battlefield of cleaning his/her bedroom. This week, finally, I can score one victory in mommy's column!! Hooha!

This time, as usual, it started with a request to my older boys that dirty socks be gathered from the far reaches of their room and sent to the laundry room. A handful of said socks were indeed deposited down the chute; however a quick look into the room told me that many more were lurking inside. So I waited until the next morning when the boys were away at school, then I made an assault on the piles. I found all the socks, pulled out the piles of dirty clothes, hauled dishes back to the kitchen, then waited for the boys to return. DS was read the riot act, then given some suggestions for finishing the job. DS#2 was sent in to help and together the boys finally ended up with a clean room - and my garbage can was full!

Next week is spring break for dd, and we'll see if we can have a similar result without the mommy assault on the room and the riot act being read.

Stitching news: none. Smocking guild meeting was last night and we worked on our hardanger emery projects. That's about it for this week. I've been too tired from cleaning to stitch in the evening. But this weekend is stitchathon for FGBB, so I'm hoping to participate and see some progress.

Other stuff: Well, we've been having entirely too much fun on Tuesdays and Thursdays with Hans and Jaeger, my dgs, come over. Hans is very comfortable here these days and totally engages us all in his wonderful 2yo conversations which ultimately end with everyone laughing. Jaeger's not yet talking, but is such a cuddler and charms us all with his smile. I'll leave you with a couple of recent pics of my smallest boys.

WAHOO Von!! A victory is a victory - good on you!!

Loved the pics of your wee ones, so cute. And two year old conversations are the best I think. All so innocent and full of wonderment.

What adorable grandbabies you have!

Though our kids are a long way from adolescence, we have already had a few skimishes in the Battle of the Bedroom with Max. Good for you on scoring one for mommies!!

Your grandsons are so cute!

I'm so not looking forward to the teenage years when my daughter gets older. She will be 1 year old in 2 weeks.

Your youngest are so adorable! Thanks for sharing!
Cleaning rooms: it's a disaster. Whenever I ask Daphné, she tells me that her back is aching, that she's tired...
Corentin does half the work, like your dear sons...
It's always fighting and fighting... Sometimes, I find it easier to do it myself, although I am well aware it is not a solution...
Enjoy your WE, dear Von!
Hugs!

What dear boys. I haven't heard a little one named Hans for a while. Never heard Jaeger. Are they family names?

Lovely boys Von, what sweet smiles. Glad you won the mummy war too.

Those are good pictures, Mom! :) Dianne -- my husband's great-great grandparents immigrated from Germany, so his family name is German. We decided we liked the sound of German boys' names because they are masculine, traditional yet unusual, and sound Old World. Hans' full name is Johannes Kristian and Jaeger, which means 'hunter' in German, is Jaeger Matthias (Math-I-uhs).

So what happens when the teen that never cleaned her room becomes a mommy? Internal wars! Cleaning my room is on today's to-do. :)

Oh, and Jaeger is pronounced Yay-ger. :)

Von, Your grandbabies are beautiful! And I understand the lack of stitching news. I have been too tired after the kids are all in bed to even think about picking up my stitching! Oh well...there's always the weekend. (Although Ian has 2 baseball games and we have church Sunday....)

What darling grandson's you have. Realy sweet. I miss having kids this age. We too are in th emidst of a room cleaning war. I usualy try to give the boys rooms a wide berth ,but they have recently gotten out of hand , and I am expecting house guests. Not a good combination. Glad to hear you were victorious.

Your grandsons are so cute. I just love the way small children talk.
Hooray on mom winning the roomwar. My eldest is having the same mess in her room. DH didn't understand because it's so simple to clean, but I have told him the whole world has this war with their teenagers. And yes, here another warrior...
good luck with what is left for cleaning

It's so nice that you looked into your family's heritage for the boys' names, Mystie.
I have a Sean Matthew and a Brian Patrick (husband)-so very Irish.

Your two grandsons are adorable! Congrats to you for winning the battle with your two sons. My son (16) is usually pretty good about keeping his room picked up. It's the daughter (13) that I have to battle with!!!

No war now that my DS is back in Sydney. My DD is ok.

I would love to pinch the cheeks of your DGS. They are so adorable.

Your Grandsons are so cute. I hope you spoil them rotten & enjoy every moment you spend with them. Grandmothers are important & special!!

Oh Von .... Von .... Von .... You hit the nail on the head. I'm still steamed (so polite a term) with my sons and their rooms. I've nagged, pleaded, yelled, and end up slamming their doors shut.

AND, to top it off DD went back to college & her room doesn't look much better.

Why or why do they behave like that? They see me cleaning the common areas of the house all the time ... how can they let things PILE UP? And complain about "no clean socks" ARGH. Their piles are appalling.

Next week is spring break for the boys & they HAVE to do something about those rooms or my volcano will explode BIG TIME.

I'm so tempted to take photos of their rooms & put them on the internet. Although, their friends would just laugh & say "kewl"
