2010 XC Season

And it's over. . . kinda

The Kamiakin H.S. boys xc team went undefeated in their district and league meets and did very well at all the invitationals. Yesterday was the regional meet that qualified teams and individuals for the state meet and our team placed third, giving the entire team the opportunity to race next weekend.

My boys were on the cusp of qualifying for the varsity team, and they did have a chance to run a couple of times when a varsity runner needed a week off to recover from an injury or something. But they mostly ran junior varsity, and usually came away with a ribbon for winning or coming in the top group of runners in their races.

Kevin crossing the finish line, just ahead of Kyle

The boys usually run most of the race together, with Kyle coming in a little faster sometimes, but Kevin pulls it out every now and then. This season Kevin started out with two awful heel blisters that took almost all season to heal. Dealing with the heel pain caused him to change his stride which then led to a knee problem for awhile. Once we learned the stretch we needed to do and got those blisters healed, he did better. :)

Here's Kyle coming in ahead of Kevin at the district meet, otherwise known as JV Champs by the kids. Kamiakin boys came in 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 - Kyle was #2 (18:01 5k), Kevin #3 (18:05).

At yesterday's regional meet they had an unofficial fun run for the alternates and others who wanted to participate and both boys ran three miles under 17 minutes to set new personal records!

So the season is officially over for my boys. However, the state meet is this weekend, here in Pasco, and we'll all be there cheering on our varsity boys - and girls as the girls team placed 2nd at regionals! Then the next week we're planning to go to Eagle, Idaho (near Boise) for the Nike Northwest Regionals where our team will compete and our own boys will run in the JV event.
Will that be the end of the season??? We'll see!

Really great pics Von! You must be so proud of your sons. XC wasn't as big a sport when my boys were at school. It would be a fun spectator sport.

You can be so proud of your boys. Those pictures are really great. And so were the ones you showed in your last post from Melanie's wedding ceremony. A feast for the eyes to see the happy couple and guests enjoying the wedding in spite of the rain.
